Introduction

This is a section dedicated to the Marxists, leftists, and revolutionary figures who played a significant role in the Tamil Eelam freedom struggle.

With the advance of European imperialism in South Asia, the Eelam Tamils was robbed of their sovereignty--first by the Portuguese, then by the Dutch, and finally by the British. Each successive colonial regime systematically eroded the autonomy of the Tamil homeland, eventually merging it administratively with the Sinhalese-majority south, laying the foundation for the present-day national conflict.
